The Road to Perfection

If you’re going to change a man, you must change him for the better.

If anyone before had ever really tried to change man for the better—they probably would have arrived with that change. But they were always trying to suppress the individual in favor of the society—and some fellows are trying to suppress the society for the benefit of the individual.

Every time anybody tried to effect a change in an individual, it was like pushing down one part of him to raise another part of him, and they sort of maintained a status quo. They didn’t change the individual; they simply suppressed one thing to release another thing. So it all added up to more or less the same thing.
